Your AI interview with Blue: what to expect

If a company sent you a link to an interview with Blue, this is what happens, how long it takes, and how to give your best answers.

What Blue is

Blue is an AI interviewer. Companies use it to hold the first interview with everyone who applies, so you get a first interview without waiting for a phone call or booking a time. You are talking to software, not a person, and you are told this before the interview starts.

Before you start

The link opens a short page. On it:

  • You can attach your CV. It is optional, and it fills in your details for you.
  • You give your name. Email and phone are optional. Adding your email lets you pick up where you left off if you are interrupted.
  • You tick one box to confirm you understand the interview is conducted by an AI and that your answers will be shared with the hiring team. The box is never ticked for you.

During the interview

  • The employer chooses the format. Most interviews are typed: no camera, no quiet room, and a phone is enough. An employer can instead choose Voice, where Blue asks out loud and you speak, or Video, where you speak on camera and the recording is kept for the hiring team for 30 days. The page before the interview states the format and what it records, and you can always switch to typing.
  • It takes about 10 to 15 minutes, and you can stop at any point. Open the same link again to carry on.
  • Blue asks about your work. Your experience, the salary you expect, your notice period and when you are available, plus questions about the role.
  • A follow-up question is normal. If an answer is short or unclear, Blue may ask for more detail. It does not mean anything went wrong.
  • You can answer in Malay or Chinese. Write in whichever you prefer. Blue starts in English, and some of its messages may stay in English.

How to prepare for an AI interview

  1. Have your CV to hand, with the dates and names of your previous jobs.
  2. Know your salary expectation in two parts: the basic salary you want, and any fixed allowance on top. A single total is harder to compare.
  3. Know your notice period and the earliest date you could really start.
  4. Use specific examples. “I handled about forty customers a shift” says more than “I have customer service experience”.
  5. Answer in your own words. There are no trick questions, and people read the whole conversation.
  6. Pick a time when you have fifteen minutes, not a perfect setting. If you get interrupted, come back through the same link.

What happens after

Your answers are recorded and summarised, and the hiring team can read the whole conversation. Blue does not decide whether you move forward: people at the company do, and they contact you about next steps on their own timeline.

Your details

The company that invited you decides how your application is handled, so questions about your details, or requests to remove them, should go to them first. How Agentic Blue itself uses AI and handles interview data is on the trust page.

Questions candidates ask

Am I talking to a real person?

No. Blue is an AI interviewer, and you are told so before the interview starts. A person at the company reads what you said afterwards.

Does Blue decide whether I get the job?

No. Blue asks the questions and writes a summary. People on the hiring team read your answers and decide who moves forward.

Can I use ChatGPT to write my answers?

Answer in your own words. The hiring team reads the whole conversation, and follow-up questions ask about the details of your own experience, which a copied answer does not have.

What if my connection drops or I have to stop?

You can stop at any point. Open the same link again to carry on from where you left off. Adding your email at the start also lets you pick up where you stopped.

Can I answer in Malay or Chinese?

Yes. Write your answers in Malay or Chinese if you prefer. Blue starts in English, and some of its messages may stay in English.

Is this link genuine?

An interview with Blue asks about your work: experience, expected salary, notice period and availability. It does not ask for bank details, passwords or payment. If you are unsure about a job offer, contact the company directly rather than through the link.

Can I speak to a person instead?

Contact the company that sent you the link. They decide how their hiring process works.
